THE WATER

THE WATER : Water is defined as a ubiquitous chemical substance having 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen atoms bonded to form a molecule H2O, also known as hydrogen oxide.Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen which combines with oxygen to form heavy water(D2O). Water is essential for survival of life as well as essential for economy, industry, ecology, climate cycle and agriculture. 60 % of human body and 80 % of human brain is water.Adult human needs 2 to 3 liters of water daily for drinking and a human can not survive for more than few days without drinking water.75 % of all people in the world are chronically dehydrated leading to day-time fatigue, cancer risk, poor mental ability and body pains.Minimum water requirement per person per day is 50 liters for drinking, bathing, cooking and sanitation.America/Canada uses 2 to 8 times more water per person than most developing nations.Civilisations have developed around water sources/rivers. Water refers to […]

THE INTELLIGENCE

THE INTELLIGENCE : Abbreviations used: IQ = Traditional intelligence quotient. EQ = Emotional intelligence quotient. Intelligence of a living organism is defined as ability to receive, understand, process, memorize, comprehend, rationalize, learn, think and judge various sensory inputs from environment in a given circumstance and come out with best possible solution to the problem posed by environment and/or perform better in environment.Humans use brain for intelligence. I will not discuss the other meaning of intelligence;the information gathering. Every scholar in psychology has defined intelligence differently and there is no consensus about definition of intelligence and so my definition is open to criticism. Even a virus shows intelligence by adapting mutation for survival. Even a bacterium shows intelligence by synthesizing an enzyme to inactivate antibiotics. For lower species, intelligence is meant for survival and reproduction but for higher species like humans, intelligence could be anything from socializing to abstract thinking to reasoning to imagination to creativity. If another […]

THE COMPUTER AND INTERNET

THE COMPUTER AND THE INTERNET: Prologue: Millions of people read my comments on internet and yet, majority of them have very little knowledge of computer/internet and hence I am posting this comments to educate them. Today,we live in computer age,the computers are found everywhere and it has created global awareness. Computer is defined as a programmable machine that computes(stores, processes and retrieves) information(data)according to a set of instructions(program). Church-Tuning theory of mathematical versatility suggests that any computer with certain minimum capacity,in principle, can perform the same task that any other computer can perform. Computers are of 2 kinds, analog and digital. Analog computer is slower, having continuous inputs and uses mechanical devices like gear/rachet/lever to perform mathematical task, for example, speedometer in a car or electricity meter in house etc.It translates variables in a given problem into analogous variations in electrical quantity like current/voltage and solve original problem by solving an equivalent problem(analog) in electrical […]

THE SWINE FLU

NOVEL H1N1 INFLUENZA OF THE YEAR 2009 (Misnomer- Swine Flu) Prologue: I never wanted to write on this subject because information is readily available on TV but as usual, Media is creating panic in the mind of people by showing every death as breaking news. Abbreviation used: Novel H1N1 influenza = H1N1 flu = HNF    Let us start with number of deaths per year due to various infectious diseases in the world. Infectious disease   deaths in millions Pneumonia            4.18 Diarrhea                 2.16 HIV                       2.08 TB                         1.46 Malaria                   1.3 Seasonal flu          0.5 HNF                      0.002 People can see that there is no comparison between deaths due to other infectious diseases and HNF. However, HNF is a caused by a new virus and therefore people do not have immunity against it and so some amount of concern is acceptable but the virus is having low virulence .However, winter is a season of […]
